Match Preview: Everton vs Manchester United

What: Premier League Matchday 22 of 38

Where: Goodison Park, Liverpool

When: 01/01/2018

Referee: Andre Marriner

Everton vs Manchester United will be held at Goodison Park, at the start of the new calendar year, 2018. This is the second fixture of this season, as the first fixture saw the 4-0 thrashing of Everton at the Theatre of Dreams. Moreover, many twitteratis tweeted that it was very ethical and elegant to wait for Wayne Rooney to leave the pitch, so they could put three more, past the hapless keeper, Jordan Pickford!

The rivalry between the two clubs has always been at bay, but more recently after David Moyes joined United, as the “Chosen One!” Furthermore, after childhood fan Wayne Rooney rejoined his boyhood club, it has given the fans an added incentive to fight over his glory. While the fans fight, the managers of both the clubs are happy to be in each other’s company as friends, as Big Sam proved to every Manchester United fan, that they were wrong to criticize Mourinho as he was winning them the trophies, in a conference late October.

This Saturday’s fixture will be crucial for the both clubs, as United look to regain their form and close the gap between League leaders, Manchester City. Everton, will further look forward to moving up the table, in time to fight for the Europa League place at sixth.

Everton form:

Newcastle United 0-1 Everton

Everton 3-1 Swansea City

Everton 0-0 Chelsea

West Brom 0-0 Everton

Bournemouth 2-1 Everton

Everton have gained 8 points in their last five games. Everton stand 9th in the league, an improvement to their miserable start which led to the unlikely resignation of Ronald Koeman. Everton failed to capitalize a point to move in 8th place, after their preposterous loss to Bournemouth at Vitality stadium. Furthermore, it looks as if Wayne Rooney has regained his former strength as he has already scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season and the winner at St. James Park.

Moreover, Everton would be a formidable opponent as they look back to gain revenge after their thrashing against United, at Old Trafford.

Manchester United form:

West Brom 1-2 Man Utd

Bristol City 2-1 Man Utd (League Cup Quarterfinals)

Leicester City 2-2 Man Utd

Man Utd 2-2 Burnley FC

Man Utd 0-0 Southampton

There’s nothing to be said on Manchester United’s recent form. It couldn’t get worse for Mourinho’s men as they have gained only 5 points in their past 4 league games. Their unlikely loss to Bristol City, saw to their exit from the league cup. Furthermore, United have drawn their past 2 matches at home, making them even more vulnerable at Goodison Park. Lukaku’s ill-fated injury against Southampton, leaves United with the miniscule option at strike as Ibrahimovic has also been sidelined for a month. United’s lackluster draw against Southampton has put them down to third, one point behind former champions – Chelsea. Jose will make changes following Lukaku’s injury and will look to replace Mkhitaryan at mid, after his poor performance against the Saints.

Moreover, United will be vulnerable at the Goodison Park after their recent performances, but will look to regain their form and start the new year with a win away from home!

Everton vs Manchester United at the Goodison Park, will be a match looked-for as it is the first premier league match of the new calendar year and Rooney’s return to face his former club, will be the much awaited highlight of the match.
